Kelantan Wins Jbba Trophy With Sensational Performance

There was plenty of money for My Royal Captain Crusoe and Itmaybeyou in the $450,000 Group 2 Japan Bloodhorse Breeders' Association Trophy, but as the field crossed the line it was the forgotten Kelantan that took the coveted prize.
Trained by Stephen Gray and ridden a treat by Ronnie Stewart, Kelantan sat well off the pace in the 1600m event from his wide gate (13). Stewart was tiding his time throughout the run and hoping for just an ounce of luck. When they went for home he was searching for a cart into the final run and lady lack stayed with him when he found Itmaybeyou.
"I just kept looking for one of the better horses to take me into the race as we straightened and there was Itmaybeyou!" said Stewart
"I think in the end being drawn out was helpful because there was a bit of buffeting going on in the inside.
"Stephen had said to me before the race that it e was carrying 51kgs we'd be sitting mid-field and waiting for one last crack at them and I was to do the same here tonight from the wide alley.
"We know what this horse can and cannot do and everything just panned out for us.
"It was great, brilliant!" Stewart added.
"I knew he'd be better at the mile but having said that I didn't think he was necessarily the best horse in the race," said a candid Gray.
"But he did have a good preparation and he's a good horse. We're very lucky to have a horse this talented and we are extremely grateful to have him in the stable.
"It was a great win and in particular tonight I'd like to dedicate the win to my good friend Danny Khoo who isn't in the best of health at the moment."
Kelantan (NZ) (Cape Cross x Stever House) is owned and raced by Zaid Ibrahim and the win was aven sweetar. "He's always wanted to win a Cup and I am delighted that I have been able to do that for him with this horse." Gray added.
